Quartz Sand for Resin Flooring: A Shop Owner’s Stock Test
A resin-flooring shop’s practical route from a customer job to a quartz-sand sample and small stock decision, with sieve, wet-out, finish and lot checks.

“When a contractor asks for “quartz sand for a resin floor,” the first decision is not which bag to stock; it is which flooring system the sand must fit. A counter test should connect the job brief, the resin supplier’s grading window, a cured panel and a repeat-lot record before a shop commits shelf space.”
SHOP COUNTER NOTE · turn one customer inquiry into a controlled sample and stock decision.
Translate the job into a sample request
Record resin brand and system instructions, substrate, wet-film stage, broadcast or trowel route, appearance and slip target, job area and environmental conditions. Those are the customer’s project facts; Changtong cannot infer them from a sand name. Its Graded Natural Quartz Sand for Resin-Bound Flooring and Polymer Concrete page identifies washed, graded natural crystalline quartz aggregate and explicitly leaves grading, moisture and packing grade-specific. Request the selected grade’s full sieve distribution and tolerance, current TDS/SDS and sample.

One panel, three decisions
| Check | Run on the same resin system | Stock decision |
|---|---|---|
| Grading and fines | Compare the supplied sieve report with the resin-system requirement; inspect airborne fines during controlled handling. | Reject or refine a grade that misses the specified size window. |
| Wet-out and cure | Make a labeled reference panel and candidate panel at the same application rate and cure conditions. | Ask the resin supplier before scaling if cure or adhesion differs. |
| Finished surface | Inspect texture, color, voids and cleanability after cure. | Retain an approved panel as a repeat-order reference. |
ASTM C136/C136M-25 is a published reference for sieve analysis of aggregates; it does not set Changtong’s grade tolerance or prove resin compatibility. Its scope also notes that material finer than the 75 μm sieve needs a separate washing method for accurate determination. Agree the method and acceptance limit in the purchase specification.

From one job to a shelf quantity
- Use the resin manufacturer’s instructions and the contractor’s mock-up to estimate project consumption. Do not publish a universal kg/m² figure.
- Separate trial demand from confirmed project demand; check order pack, supplier lead time and storage conditions before buying shelf stock.
- At receiving, match grade and lot to the order, inspect sealed packing and retain a small approved sample/panel reference.
- For repeat orders, compare the incoming grade and appearance against the approved reference before selling it as the same finish.
Illustrative counter scenario: a contractor first needs a broadcast sample, then a quote for a defined floor system. The shop supplies a sample and asks for the system’s grading window; it does not promise a coverage rate, color or cure result before the mock-up.

Keep the material name honest
This is natural crystalline quartz sand, not the fine surface-treated quartz powder discussed for epoxy flooring. The two have different physical roles; a treated fine filler should not be silently substituted for graded broadcast aggregate. Crystalline silica dust handling should follow the current SDS and local controls; NIOSH guidance provides general reference.
FAQ
Which sand size should I stock?
Start from the specific flooring system’s grading requirement and a contractor panel. The linked product page does not promise a universal size.
Can I calculate job quantity from the sand datasheet alone?
No. The resin system, application method and mock-up determine consumption and losses.
Is a white-looking sample enough for decorative floors?
No. Compare the cured panel and retained reference under the project’s actual finish conditions.
Source basis: Changtong’s linked natural quartz aggregate product page; ASTM C136/C136M-25 is independent method reference, and NIOSH is general safety context. No Changtong lot test or completed customer job is claimed.
